Research news - Human-centered personal data management is needed in Connected Health

The European Network for the Joint Evaluation of Connected Health Technologies (Enject) invited twelve persons from Europe to present their research in the field of Connected Health in Paris in Winter 2017.

Laura Kemppainen, a doctoral researcher of Martti Ahtisaari Institute, gave a presentation on how taking a human-centered approach in personal data management instead of the traditional organization-centered one, enables more cost-efficient, preventive and proactive healthcare, as well as offers new business opportunities. Empowering individuals and increasing their ability to control their own personal data and share it with healthcare providers, individuals would enable connected healthcare through platforms and people, and therefore increase motivation to take care of one’s health. Laura’s research interests lay in business models for personal data platforms in the context of Connected Health.

Other topics presented in the workshop from other fields of studies were,  for example, User Centred Design and Human Computer Interaction Techniques for the Development of Mobile Health Applications for Chronic Conditions by Guido Giunti; Unsupervised Home Based Training to Improve Physical Function in Ageing Populations by John Malone; Machine Learning Algorithms for Advanced Trauma Life Support by Jugoslav Achkoski; and Self-Tracking Sensors and Applications for Patients with Multiple Chronic Conditions or Age-Related Disorders by Antonis Billis.

The presentations were based upon work from COST Action (ENJECT TD 1405), supported by COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology). Presentation slides are available in electronic form
