Marika Iivari

Marika Iivari is Adjunct Professor in Business Analytics and Digital Business

Marika Iivari completed her M.Sc. in International Business (with Distinction) at the University of Ulster, Magee Campus, in Northern Ireland.  She defended her doctoral dissertation in the field of International Business, specializing in business models, open innovation and ecosystems, and gained her doctoral degree  in 2016.

From 2023 onwards she is Adjunct Professor  in Business Analytics and Digital Business at Oulu Business School.

Iivari has worked in several national and international R&D&I projects at Oulu Business School, in such different contexts as smart cities, 5G and 6G mobile telecommunications, IoT, blockchain, cyber security, creative digital industries, and digital health.  She has been an advisor in the Urban Agenda for EU’s Digital Transition Partnership, as well as affiliated with Imperial College London’s Centre for Digital Transformation, as Academic Visitor.  

Iivari has taught in the Entrepreneurship Minor study package of the University of Oulu, and in the International Business Analytics Master's program that is given jointly by Oulu Business School and the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering of the university.

Currently, her research interests expand from innovation, business modelling and design to data-driven decision making and data economy. In the latter she is involved in the national Allied ICT Finland network, as one of the leaders of the Future Data Economy research theme group.
