Martti Ahtisaari Institute
Embracing the new and innovative
Martti Ahtisaari Institute, established in 2008, is a research and education unit within Oulu Business School at the University of Oulu. The institute conducts research and development activities to create new knowledge on responsible business and global economy. We create, develop and help to deploy new research-based business knowledg by building on the knowledge, skills and competences of individuals, organizations and networks in the context of changing businesses, using scientific principles and methods.
The Institute operates through research and development projects, executive education programmes and degree education including, for example, a minor in entrepreneurship. We develop our education offerings to respond to the internal needs and external opportunities of our stakeholders. In addition, the institute arranges annually events that provide a forum for discussions and a platform for new insights into the development of the economy and business life.
Our research targets include responsible, digital and data-intensive businesses, changing value creation, capture and sharing ecosystems and the emerging real-time access economy. We contribute to the best understanding and advancement of business analysis, modeling and execution for the change and renewal of private enterprises and public bodies, in order to make an impact in business and thereby affect the economy as a whole.
The institute participates in innovation co-operation within the university, in the Oulu region through Oulu Innovation Alliance, and internationally. Research collaboration includes, among other, a joint professorship with VTT. International education partnerships include institutions in the Shanghai area in China and the EM Lyon business school in France.
The institute is an active member in Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative (GRLI), a network involving academic and industrial parties from many different countries, all interested in sustainable and responsible business.
Our key activities in the past years are described in the annual reports of Oulu Business School
