Raushan Aman's research awarded

Raushan Aman, an international business researcher at Martti Ahtisaari Institute, was granted a two years’ full scholarship for her doctoral research by the Finnish Cultural Foundation in February 2020.  The sum of the scholarship is as much as 26 000 euros per year.  Her  research addresses immigrant women’s entrepreneurship.

Migration usually tends to decrease the unemployment of men, whereas it increases unemployment of women due to the tendency of women being “tied movers”. Nevertheless, international migration is becoming more female as the proportion of women migrants increase, similarly, also expatriates who migrate for work assignments are nowadays often women. Despite this positive trend, immigrant women, who have established business at a new place of residence, is frequently invisible in mainstream entrepreneurship literature.  Particularly, there is a lack of comprehensive explanation of the contextual factors shaping immigrant women's self-employment decisions in the host country.

Thus, the aim of Raushan Aman’s research is to fill this gap by exploring immigrant women's business establishment decisions through entrepreneurial ecosystem perspective. More specifically, she is  interested to know how the host country's government and regulatory frameworks; support systems and mentors; funding and finance; market; culture and human capital impact on migrant women's self-employment decisions, and how, in their turn, immigrant female entrepreneurs perceive and act upon the opportunities in their ecosystems.
