JointMacs project completed

A two-year project that belonged to the WiFiUS collaboration (Wireless Innovation between Finland and US) and that was started in 2015 has been completed.

The responsible leader and one of the principal investigators of the project was Academy Professor Matti Latva-Aho and the project manager was Marja Matinmikko, both from the CWC Centre for Wireless Communications of the University of Oulu.

Martti Ahtisaari Institute took part in the project, including Petri Ahokangas as another principal investigator and Sara Moqaddamerad as a project researcher and doctoral student.

On the US side the principal investigators were Alhussein Abouzeid from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute,  the oldest technological research  university in the USA, and Hesham El Gamal and Atilla Eryilmaz from the Ohio State  University.

The project focused on new business models for mobile operators with dynamic spectrum and content sharing and distribution, utilizing intelligent content caching in small cell  networks especially for future 5G. Transfer of the results into new technologies was supported through collaboration with several industrial parties both in the USA and in Finland.
